Fishing and water sport in Aveyron

The
presence of water can be observed throughout
Aveyron, with its 7000 km of class 1 and 2
streams, rivers and waterways, and its 38
lakes and reservoirs totalling 4000 ha, including
the Pareloup Lake which measures over 1200
ha.
There are salmonid fish, in particular pike
(1.37 m - 19.6 kg) in the torrents (boraldes)
or rushing mountain streams of the south-Aveyron;
predator fish in the great lakes or the Lot
River; pikeperch, perch and carp in the rivers;
and the waters of the Aveyron river are richly
stocked for coarse fishing. Aveyron is a haven
for all anglers, be they amateur beginners
or confirmed champions. Every kind of angling
is available, including rod and reel, and
fly-fishing. Many towns have fishing clubs
and associations or fishing schools.

There is also the lakes. The
watercourses of the Truyere, Lot, Tarn and
Viaur rivers are ideal for producing hydroelectric
energy. There are 17 dams in Aveyron, feeding 16 power
stations, representing 2580 MW of installed
power. This is equivalent to two generating
units of a nuclear-energy power plant. You can visit some of these dams and hydroelectric
installations. Dams mean, of course, that
there are vast lakes and reservoirs offering
a wide variety of facilities. You cannot beat
the Aveyron for water sports. With all its
lakes and reservoirs, there are a number of
nautical bases welcoming sports fans and nature
lovers. These centres provide facilities for
canoeing, kayaking, rafting, water-skiing and fishing.
