> Paris-Bistro : Selection of good Aveyronnais Bistros in Paris
Le Barricou - Paris 75003

You’ll find that flashy yellow bistro facing the “Cirque d’hiver”, on the other side of boulevard du Temple. “Le Barricou”, a name which speaks for itself, proudly reminiscent of the wild landscapes and perfumes of the Aveyron area.
Le Barricou definitely is a natural Paris household, complete with its social melting-pot. A place where you may start a bottle of wine at the bar with friends, and simply pick it up to your dining table – that is, provided you’ve not already emptied it... Few “monsieur” and “madame” are to be heard in this vicinity, since everyone calls evryone by his name. When admitted in that fraternity, you may call yourself a true parisian !

We’re in Paris for sure, but in Aveyron as well. Michel Gineston, the patron, wouldn’t and couldn’t hide this dichotomy : pictures of the Old Country are spattered all over the bar ! And Michel himself is as authentic as his Rouergue roots : watch his friendly, heavy-browed face and sink into his deep-dark eyes...
Michel’s wife Sylvie, comes from another area, Chinon, but isn’t that another wine area ? It sure is, and not a bad point for a wine-bar ! Her husband stands as the perfect XXIst century “Bougnat” – who follows the path of his ancestors, but in his own modern, most clever way. “The path of the ancestors” means that like so many before him in Aveyron, he first had to go to Paris to start business. He went the hard way, from bartender to waiter and then...to his own place ! And he sure did a great job at the head of Le Barricou. A mere two years after he took it over, he was awarded the famous “Golden Bottle” prize by the “Wine Tradition Association” !
